Welcome to IPDRU

Welcome to the Indigenous Policy and Dialogue Research Unit at UNSW.

In late February 2009 the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of New South Wales announced the formation of a new research initiative: The Indigenous Policy and Dialogue Research Unit (IPDRU). Officially launched on the 20th August 2009, IPDRU is headed by Patrick Dodson as Director and Professor of Indigenous Policy.

The Indigenous Policy and Dialogue Research Unit (IPDRU) is engaged in a nation building research agenda to develop new narratives, institutions, practices, philosophies and opportunities for a more just and inclusive Australia, where Indigenous rights and interests are at the centre of Australian nationhood and embedded in the institutional fabric of the country.

IPDRU is based in the UNSW Social Policy Research Centre at UNSW. The Nura Gili Indigenous Programs Centre has established itself as a strong Indigenous presence at the University of New South Wales and is also a key partner for the IPDRU. A seven-member Steering Committee (PDF) includes staff from both Centres and provides guidance on IPDRU's strategic direction.
